WHAT IS CREATIVE ARTS COUNSELLING?

Child and Young Person Counselling is an integrated approach that combines talking therapy with creative activities, offering a person-centred way to explore feelings and thoughts within a supportive therapeutic relationship. This method provides children and young people with alternative ways to express themselves, especially when words alone may be difficult. Creative mediums such as art, sand, clay, or visualisation offer non-verbal forms of expression, which can later be explored and processed with the guidance of the therapist.

This approach recognises that creative expression can be a powerful tool for communication and emotional processing. Through art, play, and conversation, young people can explore their feelings and experiences in ways that feel natural and comfortable to them. Creative Arts Counselling varies from person to person; some may prefer conversation, while others engage more in creative expression. Teenagers, in particular, may find it challenging to connect through conversation and may choose creative activities as a way to express themselves more freely. Ultimately, the choice always rests with the child or young person.
